In January we launched our manifesto asks to MPs and Peers in Parliament. We asked parties to put flooded people first in their policies.
With one in four properties in the UK now at risk of flooding and climate change set to make things worse, tackling flooding has never been more important. The NFF is demanding a bigger, bolder and more sustainable approach to flood risk management.
As the major parties release their manifestos, flooding does feature but we need more focus. There is a call from both the Conservative and Labour parties for more home building and talk of relaxing planning laws – something we know worries many people.
When the new Government is in place, we will continue to fight for flooded people, taking your concerns right to the heart of that Government and sharing your experiences.
Our demands are:
- Stop building on flood plains – allow space for water
- Expand focus from bias towards property flood resilience to all interventions
- Overhaul funding criteria to benefit more communities
We will continue to champion more resources for Local Authorities to ensure people can get support, and push for the need to tackle the root causes of flooding.
Be sure to ask your parliamentary candidates about flooding and how they will support flooded people after the election.
